UPDATE (11/6): My project was published in today’s Independent Weekly Election Issue. It’s on the stands right now and you can also view a slideshow of the images with captions online:

(8/29) post:

I just found out that it looks like my project on homelessness in Durham will most likely be running in The Indepdent Weekly, where I had the privilege to intern this past summer. I had been eagerly awaiting the news that my project would have a home; I’ve never had more invested personally in a project as I do with this one. The eight people I interviewed and photographed with the huge 4×5 Sinar shared their soulfulness with me and I left invigorated with spirit. I can’t explain how much I was moved by these people in different ways. This photograph is of Mike, a homeless man I’ve interacted with for the better part of 5 years, at his perch outside Cosmic Cantina. Mike and I spent quite a bit of time with each other over this past summer and my mind has been going back to him quite often since I got to Brooklyn. He’s a man who’s love and sense of respect I greatly admire.

The photo essay should be running around mid-September so keep an eye out for it.

Allison enjoying a wonderful Mr. Softee in Brooklyn Heights. She’s a fine little lady ain’t she? I love the photos like these that I have of Allison because its very much what I see: Her eyes and then everything else is a blur. Well maybe I pay a little attention to the ice cream, which she was kind enough to give me a bite of.
