Embracing Temporary Simplicity

Posted by on January 28, 2010

After 24 exciting and warm hours in Miami, I’m currently in Oklahoma City to assist on two Thunder games. OKC definitely appears to be a simple, midwestern town at heart and doesn’t seem to stray far from perception upon a slightly closer look. The mid-week timing of the trip combined with the apparently apocalyptic ice storm has shut down the city. The nature of hotel life also makes it easy to never venture outside. While circumstances such as these usually drive me crazy, I’ve embraced the simplicity of the week and sheltered myself a little from the normal chaos that surrounds so many of us.

A Snowy Mess

Posted by on December 20, 2009

When the much ballyhooed blizzard finally hit the New Jersey area I was in a line stretching a few hundred feet to catch buses back into the city. The line took a 30 minute wait in the elements to reach the warmth of a bus. One of the more impatient was arrested for accosting a bus driver while trying to force himself onto a bus. For a southern boy such as myself, the first snow is still very much a novel experience and I was able to take a couple frames before the snow made it near impossible to keep my lense dry.

Ongoing Project Outtake

Really enjoyed the surge of sports work of late, but, as always, I only find myself easing my hunger (and anxiety) through story-telling projects. Very grateful to have some time and space to continue working on a few projects. Here is another outtake.

Duke Wins NIT

Here is a slideshow from Duke’s win in the NIT at Madison Square Garden. The Devils have definitely impressed me so far early this year, just like they do at the beginning of every year.

Kevin Garnett nailed a 20-foot jumper as time expired in Overtime to beat the Knicks. It was yet another crushing L for the Knickerbockers. I feel like I’m earning my right to be Knicks fan right now and we’ll be rewarded soon enough for enduring all of this. The worst part was there was no crazy KG chest thumping, he was just like “Yes, I expected to be more or less this great.”

Somebody Won!

The Knicks and Nets played in a game of the two worst records in the NBA and the Knicks didn’t lose. Hard to believe a team with Devin Harris is still winless.

Boozer Beasts the Knicks

The Knicks are now 1-7 with no easy wins in sight. Things are getting so rough Knicks fans needed to be reminded “That we don’t Boo kids at The Garden” on Monday night during a kids dunk contest. No boos for the team yet, but watch out if you attempt and air ball a half-court shot during a contest or run out of free t-shirts too early.

Boozer had 23 points and 14 rebounds, but the Duke universe was leveled out as Duhon was benched for most of the game in favor of FSU rookie Toney Douglas who had 21 points. Least interesting 2-point game ever (95-93 Jazz Win).
